BECCI's CORNER

Farewell Breakfast Becci!

We renamed the Breakfast Show on Friday 4th June the 'All Surprises Breakfast Show' because poor Becci had absolutely no idea what her cheeky fellow presenters had in store for her last weekday show on Gtfm.

The surprises included an eight minute compilation of 'great moments', a personal appearance by former colleague Baz, who travelled specially from his new Midlands home - and a big bunch of flowers

from Gtfm volunteer Jonathan James.

After 6 years before the radio mast, so to speak, helping us pioneer Community

Radio in Wales, Becci decided it was time to get a 'proper job' which won't

involve getting up at 5am in all seasons and all weathers!

But we're delighted she has agreed to continue presenting her Spotlight musical theatre show

on Sunday afternoon 3-4pm (see below).

The rest of the time however we'll all miss her loads - and wish her all the very best for the future,

which we believe may involve teaching Performing Arts before too long!

SPOTLIGHT

Becci says: "Join me every Sunday from 3-4pm for everything from Lloyd Webber to Larson, Sondheim to Sater, Gershwin to Gilbert and Sullivan and everything in between! My aim is to bring you the widest spectrum of music from the world's most loved musicals!

So, for music from Hair to Hairspray; Cats to The Lion King; Wiz to Wicked; Godspell to Jesus Christ Superstar and Blues Brothers to Blood Brothers, I'll play it all every Sunday from 3pm.

Plus, we'll take a look at theatre listings for the area, get news from the stage and find out more about local theatre groups. So, if you're in a forthcoming production in school, or with a local theatre company, let us promote the show for you. Email: becky@gtfm.co.uk with the details".

RETRO ACADEMY THEATRE GROUP ROCKS - OFFICIAL!

By a very proud Becci!

Ok - I must own up to being a bit biased as I was the director of the show(!) - but I have to say how proud I am that Aberdare based theatre company 'Retro Academy for Performing Arts' (RAPA) scooped 'Best Musical 2009' at the 'Glammies' annual amateur theatre awards, run by the Glamorgan Drama League, on Sunday 28th June 2009!

The proud cast with their Glammie!

The prestigious accolade was for their April production of Jonathan Larson's RENT, which was the Welsh Amateur Premiere of the award winning musical, running for three nights at the Coliseum Theatre, Aberdare. RAPA were also recognised for their professionalism and congratulated on an outstanding production.

RAPA also swept the board in individual categories, with Michelle Turner from Taff's Well winning Best Supporting Actress for her role as Maureen and Joe Crabbe from Cardiff winning Best Actor for his portrayal of Angel, the HIV positive transvestite (pictured below).

I'm absolutely thrilled with the award, which is testimony to the hard work of the whole cast and crew.
