Pontypridd Men’s Shed has been nominated for the Shed Partnership of the Year award at this year’s UK Awards ceremony to be held on International Men’s Day at the Speaker’s Rooms Westminster on November 19th.
The Awards are an opportunity to promote and celebrate the Movement recognising the individuals that make a difference in their local communities.
The Treforest based Men’s Shed has numerous partnerships which all work harmoniously together, from the council to local primary schools, a film company and South Wales University.
The Shed has produced animations, run events and even developed a WW2 Garden through co working with their partners.
Formed over two years ago under the umbrella of Pontypridd Town Council the Pontypridd Men’s Shed, which is housed in the Taff Meadow Community Centre, has gone from strength, with more than 40 members participating.
Since its formation the Men’s Shed has also added a Creative Writing group, which is based in a studio in Pontypridd Museum and recently set up an exciting new project in a Wood Shop located in East Street Trallwn.
Pontypridd Town Council Chief Executive Tony Graham said:
“The Town Council is delighted to see Pontypridd Men’s Shed being recognised for the amazing work they are doing in our community.
“From humble beginnings the group has grown from six members to over 40 men meeting each week to enjoy each other’s company, learning new skills, growing in knowledge and serving their community.
“They have become a key partner for the Town Council as we try to improve the well-being and mental health of everyone who lives in Pontypridd.
“We are looking forward to our continued partnership and watching them continue to go from strength to strength in the coming months and years.”
Pontypridd Men’s Shed chairman Andy Phillips said:
“The Shedders are very excited and proud to receive this nomination.
“It serves to highlight the great work we have done over the last two years to establish ourselves in the community.”
