Written by on 1st February 2025

Stagecoach South Wales has announced the launch of its new ‘Rhondda Fach Connector Ticket’ in partnership with Transport for Wales. The new ticket will be available to purchase on the bus, train, or at the train station from Monday 3 February 2025.

The Rhondda Fach Connector Ticket allows passengers to travel on any valid Stagecoach service between Maerdy and Porth, and Transport for Wales trains between Porth and all stations in Cardiff.

This new ticket type will be available as a return or weekly ticket, priced at £10 for a return and £30.50 for a weekly ticket.

Martin Gibbon, Managing Director of Stagecoach South Wales, said: “We’re excited to launch the new Rhondda Fach bus and rail ticket, which allows customers to travel seamlessly between both bus and train services with just one ticket.

“This collaboration between bus and rail operators marks an important step forward in providing a more convenient and simple travel experience and is a great example of how partnerships in the transport sector can deliver real benefits for our customers.”
Buffy Williams MS, said, “Cheaper fares and shorter journey times are a must for Rhondda Fach residents if we are to see parity when it comes to travel across our Valleys.

It’s been a real pleasure working with Stagecoach Bus, Transport for Wales, and the Welsh Government to make the re-introduction of rail bus through tickets a reality.

I already know from the hundreds of comments received to my survey that these tickets will make a real difference.”
Alexia Course, Chief Commercial Officer at TfW, said: “We’re pleased to be partnering with Stagecoach on this new ticket offer which simplifies travel between rail and bus and offers great value for money for passengers, launched in tandem with the opening of our brand-new bus interchange in Porth. Stagecoach services will run from the interchange from Sunday 2nd February.”
“Customers in the Valleys are already starting to see the benefit of our £800m investment in new trains on behalf of the Welsh Government, with more brand-new trains to follow over the next 18 months.”
“Combined with the planned increase in service frequency, the South Wales Metro will soon deliver a true turn-up-and-go service with excellent links between rail and bus.”
